In the free account you can make your video private or public. The free plan limits you to 500Mb of uploads in a week and 5GB total storage. When you're done recording your video will save into your Vimeo account. (I recommend turning your webcam on because it helps to make a better connection with students when they can see your face). Just click the extension's icon in Chrome then choose whether you want to record your screen with or without your webcam turned on. Once you've installed Vimeo Record in Chrome it works just like the dozens of other screencasting tools available to Chrome users. Vimeo Record is available as a free Chrome extension that you can get right here. The new tool is simply called Vimeo Record. Today, Vimeo launched a new screen recording tool. Now you can use it to record as well as host your videos. Vimeo is one of my top alternatives to using YouTube to host instructional videos. The captions are helpful to students who have hearing impairments but also to students who might be watching the videos in a place where they cannot play the videos aloud and don't have ready access to headphones. The new transcription and captions option in Loom could be helpful to teachers who are already using Loom and want to improve the accessibility of their instructional videos. Perhaps you'll have better luck than I did on my Pixel 5.
In short, Loom's Android app is not something I'd recommend using at this time. When it did stop, I couldn't find the recording anywhere.
The recording would start, but it wasn't obvious that it had started and it wasn't obvious how to stop the recording. Once I finally signed in by creating a completely new account without the use of Google single sign-on the recording function was clunky at best. However, both times that I tried it the log-in function didn't work if I used Google single sign-on (it put me into an infinite loop of asking to verify my log-in with my phone). It is supposed to to make it easy to record screencasts on your Android phone. I have now installed it and uninstalled it twice. Loom also introduced a new Android app at the end of March. You can read more about the transcription and caption feature here. Transcriptions and captions are a beta feature right now so not all accounts have them at this time. Any videos that are transcribed will also have captions added to them when viewed. Loom's transcription tool will automatically create an English transcript of your videos. Those are a transcription/ captions tool and an Android app. Some of those include recording videos from your Gmail inbox and making whiteboard videos. In the last year I've made a few tutorials about different ways to use Loom. Loom is one of my favorite Chrome extensions for making short tutorial videos. In my ranking of free options, Screencastify came out on top. Last fall I created a chart and wrote a detailed comparison of free screencasting tools. You can see that video here.Ī Comparison of Other Screencasting Tools Last year March I published a complete video overview of Screencast-o-matic. When I'm making longer videos I'll also utilize the clip merging tools, transition tools, and text overlay tools that are available in Screencast-o-matic. Screencast-o-matic also provides the option to have a highlighted circle follow your mouse pointer on your screen. One of those cropping options is to use an oval. With that version comes the option to crop and resize the webcam view that you can overlay on your screencast. The deluxe version of Screencast-o-matic is the paid version that costs $1.65/month. I use the desktop version unless I'm using my Chromebook. Screencast-o-matic is available in a browser-based version and in a desktop "deluxe" version. Screencast-o-matic is the tool that I use to create nearly all of the videos that appear on my YouTube channel. That is, "what are you using to make your videos." Usually, people ask that because they want to know how I'm highlighting my mouse pointer in my videos or how I'm creating the moving oval cut-out of my webcam. There is one that I get asked more frequently than any other. I get lots of questions sent to me every week.
